Brief biography: Andy completed his BSc(Econ) Social Anthropology, at the University of Wales in 1986 and worked in voluntary and residential care before qualifying as a social worker from the University of Edinburgh in 1991. In 2006 he completed his DPhil in Social Work and Social Policy, entitled ‘Huntington’s Disease: The Carer’s Story’.
He has worked in a range of setting with diverse client groups, but specialised in hospital social work, developing specialisms in with people with neuro-disabilities, mental health problems, carers and safeguarding concerns. Since 2005 he has worked in education, at the University of Chichester, the West Sussex Safeguarding Adults Board and since 2015 the London South Bank University.
Involvement in INSWABI: Andy’s interest in working with people with ABI started as a volunteer for Headway in 1987. He is a board member of the Brain Injury Social Work Group and a member of INSWABI’s committee.
He has written about Safeguarding and TBI and presented on TBI and Professional Curiosity and TBI and Mental Capacity. He is currently involved in a literature review of Social Work and TBI.
